If you’re a black hat:
- I pledge to break every search engine rule there is and then wonder why I got caught by Google. I’ll then either ask for a reinstatement with my current site or start a new one and continue doing what I was doing.
- I pledge to spam my way to the top. At least I’m honest about it.
- I pledge to develop relationships with bots; not people. After all, it’s not people who’ll get me where I want to go, it’s the bots. By the way, SMO is legal spamming. Get it right!
- I pledge to win the war of SEO. Search engine marketing is a battle and I’m going to win. MUA HA! HA! HA! HAA!
- I pledge to comply with ethics – BUT SEO is not about ethics. It’s about winning the war of marketing and I’ll do what ever it takes to win! MUA HA! HA! HA! HAA!
If you’re a gray hat:
- I pledge to ride the fence for as long as I can. Should I get caught, I pledge to change my ways… maybe…
- I don’t really “spam”. It’s called something else… oh yeah… zebra pages. With SMO, I’d have to agree with the black hat that it’s all legal spamming. There’s nothing wrong with it. Everyone’s doing it.
- I pledge to develop relationships with people and with bots. Both get me the money and the rankings.
- I pledge to check out every competitor’s site and do what they’re doing. If they’re using a black hat strategy, I’ll do the white hat thing and report them.
- I pledge to comply with ethics – but when I’m in Rome, I’ll do as the Romans do. Besides, you know, it’s all just too confusing!
If you’re a white hat:
- I pledge to rid the world of those no good, evil scum “black hats”. Follow the rules “stupid”!
- I pledge to hate spammers and by the way I hate SPAM too. SMO is not legal spamming. It’s about connecting and having great and compelling content for my audience to enjoy. I just love my audience.
- I pledge to love people and be a better writer and vote for world peace.
- I pledge to love search engines. They’re my friend.
- I pledge to comply with ethics. I’m honest and forthright and I have a halo on my head. By the way, you should really ask this question to the black hats.
If you’re a no hat:
- I pledge to have a clue and if I don’t have one, I’ll get a clue… soon…
- Spam - Huh? What? SMO - Huh? What?
- People… Bots? I sit in front of my computer by myself. There are no other people and no other bots. Enough said!
- I pledge to have a blank look on my face when someone asks me about search engines. Deer in the headlights looks familiar.
- I pledge to comply with ethics – as soon as I figure out what’s ethical.
