So I submitted an article that was mostly questions, just to see what kind of response I would get. The result was an average vote of 2. I think the reason my post did so poorly was because there wasn't much advice in it. Yes, I posed a good idea and asked some questions, but I don't think the reader walked away with anything tangible. It is a good idea to post articles containing a lot of referential information. Also posting about topics that are currently hot (like google dropping every ones pagerank) receive more positive response than a general "Wouldn't it be cool if" topic. I know that might seem like common sense to most people, but I think that's what separates truly good content from random mind spillage. I think that formatting is important also, so that people can skim your post and pick out the pertinent information. I will still continue to write articles that I know will probably not do very well for a few reasons, the more you write the better you get, and maybe I might get inspired mid-post and actually write something very profound!

What percentage of your articles are written just because you need to write something?

Hi,

I just had a look at the article you are referring to, and it does appear to be a question and would have been better placed in the Q&A area. I am sure you would have got a lot of responses if you had posted it as a question.

This article above also does not seem like "online marketing advice" (so I wouldn't expect a great ave score) and is probably better placed in your gooruze member blog.

Hope this helps.

Clay

As a newcomer trying to navigate around here and get a handle on it, here's my 2c:

I don't think there's anything wrong with writing just for the sake of writing - but as far as i can see -the personal blog area is indeed the place for it.  In fact - I just did exactly that - to help put my own thoughts of the last few crazy, whirlwind months in better perspective.

Also  - i agree with you that the more we write the better we become, both in terms of style and also in our contributions to the community as a whole. Until I personally have something really worthwhile to say - hopefully in the not so distant future - I'll continue to post primarily in my blog area and develop useful comments outside in the blogosphere to establish myself and boost by confidence somewhat.

So for sharing those thoughts - i boosted the vote to a 3! :) Keep on keeping on!!

Good response.

I think as Gooruze evolves, we will see people use different sections for different types of writing.

Is it possible to move an article to another section once it has been written?
