Seems social media isn't just for the middle and upper-middle class anymore: Now the top crust of society is getting social with the launch of the Wealth Management Exchange website. The site's founder, Wayne Cooper, got burned a bit in the market a few years back, and realized the need for a social site geared to help investors help each other. The content-rich site features expert-authored articles by investment experts; discussion forums; and the ability for Management Exchange community members to rank wealth advisors. The site is geared toward investors with between $5 and $50 million to invest, which is why I'm interested. What?! I got in early on some Russian oil stocks and am sitting pretty. Okay, I was visiting my parents this weekend, and read my dad's copy of Investment News. The site, backed by Exchange Networks LLC, launched on November 1st, and is using a "Facebook-style" approach to online community building. Site registration is free, and Cooper hopes to generate revenue from event & conference sponsorships, as well as integrating an ad revenue model. The bottom line purpose of the site, says Cooper, is for investors to hold advisors accountable for the input and advice they give clients. "The challenge will be to familiarize investors with the site," said Mark Balasa, one of the community's expert authors. "The community who participates will make it valuable," said Balasa, pointing out the obvious. Added Balasa, "Users will need to use the Internet to access this online community." Just joking; the site is quite sharp-looking, content-rich, and appears poised to help investors offer each other valuable insight. Regarding the challenge of familiarizing investors with the site: Why not target investors online through Online PR? Call me crazy. As soon as I have $5 to $50 million to invest, I'll totally add this community to my list of social groups with which I interact - you can bank on it. | |||||||
