Can Viral Videos Save your Marketing Efforts?

by ggallucci Expert(November 2007) (rank 11th)

If you are in the business of internet marketing, you have noticed that many conventional internet marketing strategies do not work as effectively anymore. Internet users are blocking pop ups and rarely see them any more. They ignore banner ads and even cpc ads that were all the rage not too long ago barely make an impact. What is an internet marketer to do when all the tried and true internet marketing methods seem to have fallen by the wayside? Well they should embrace a new marketing outlet, that’s what, and there just happens to be a new method that has not lost its edge, yet.

Viral videos are the new marketing vehicle. Those short funny, engaging, citizen journalism, and/or how-to videos that get passed around the internet in epic proportions and even featured on TV (talk about reaching the masses) are a great new way for internet marketers to connect with consumers and best of all it is incredibly inexpensive. With so many video sharing sites and social networking sites on the internet today, the realm of viral video marketing has just begun to be explored. It seems like every day the internet evolves and recently it has evolved to include viral videos. You need to hurry up and grab this marketing opportunity by the horns before its popularity subsides, although it seems just from human nature that this marketing trend may stick around for a while.

If your other marketing efforts have been failing or just not performing up to their old standards, you should consider viral video marketing. In a nutshell, you create a funny, quirky, surprising, compelling, engaging or entertaining video that some element of wow factor. You make it relate to your companies field and then post it online on the various video sharing sites and wait for it to go viral. It is simple in theory and because viral videos are cost effective you can afford to try lots of different things, because getting a video to go viral may take a while. But with the right content, your video can reach a large audience.

Keep your video short and to the point. Most people won’t spend too much time watching an online video (they have lots of other videos to watch and only 30 minutes for lunch) so it is important to get to the point quickly.

Make sure your video is interesting and does not resemble a commercial. If your video doesn’t have a wow factor or if it doesn't truly add value for a viewer in some way it stands no chance against all the other videos out there. Make your video something people will want to share; one that creates a funny diversion or is very interesting.

Plan your viral video marketing campaign to include more than one video. Once you have found a formula that works for your company, make more videos. If viewers like your first video they will be willing to watch more so make them and keep them in the sprit of your first successful attempt. You should also use as many resources as you can to market your video. Tag it with relevant keywords and post it on as many different video sharing sites as you can.
