It's all about leveraging the Social Graph in a way that promotes your expertise and builds a brand that precedes you. For those that are a bit confused on what the Social Graph really is, here's my definition: Social Graph = your relationships, extending connections, and the relationships of others within Social Networks. Or quite simply, Social Graph = Social Networks. "...we will allow these Public Search listings (depending on users' individual privacy settings) to be found by search engines like Google, MSN Live, Yahoo, etc. We think this will help more people connect and find value from Facebook without exposing any actual profile information or data."Imagine that someone is "googling" you and that your Facebook is one of the top results. A well written and strategically populated "public" profile could be the one-stop page that represents who you are and why you matter to your peers and prospects. | |||||||||||

November 2007 will be interesting to see how much of the member profiles will be made indexable...that will heavily influence the impact of the change...
but you're right brian, Facebook has surpassed most of its social network predecessors by being more than simply a place for promotion, expression or networking, but more importantly a place to aggregate one's online profiles and activity in a single repository. Reply

November 2007 Interesting reading, I certainly wasn't aware that the profiles are going to be indexed - I think Facebook is fast becoming a vital inclusion for any business. Hugely addictive, of course, but vital! I'd be really interested in a follow up to this post that gives any advice you have learned for people who haven't a clue about this kind of thing!
