I was watching Fox News' Fox and Friends program this morning, because I like to be entertained as I brush my teeth and make sure my socks match. And an attractive woman flanked by two goofy guys in suits is about as good as TV entertainment gets at 6 a.m.

Fox and Friends apparently has a "question of the day"; today's question was about CNN's handling of presidential debates given repeated charges of planted questions for candidates. Fox viewers were asked if this is "a conspiracy, or incompetence" on CNN's part. Note CNN is screwed either way you answer, given how this question is posed.

Again, it was entertaining, and it got me thinking: Most, if not all, TV news is entertainment - or at least headed in that direction. I can't imagine turning on the "news" to actually learn what's going on in the world, other than to see how my morning commute is shaping up.

One exception - the visual power of TV as conveyed through the 9/11 attack coverage.

However with RSS feeds I get actual news from where I want, when I want it. No talking heads with agendas, no commercial interruptions. Just news completely on my terms.

I'll keep watching TV news for the entertainment value; however I'll also continue to get actual news from the Net.
