As difficult as it may seem to believe, 2007 is nearing its end. Where the frick did the time go? As a writer, it’s time for me to look back on the last year and to start thinking about some resolutions to ring in the new year.
I hope these help you to become a better writer. I know I plan on sticking to these resolutions, and I plan to enlist the help of my friends, family, and I guess I’ll even ask my coworkers to make sure I’m following my own advice. And you, my dear readers, can ask me anytime whether or not I am too. Here’s to wishing you a prosperous and productive 2008! | |||||||

January 6th Good advice and I totally agree with numbers 1 and 2, read and write. Just do it, and the more you do it the better you'll be. My problem is that I write so much for my various jobs as marketer and as freelancer that I find it difficult to be creative when I need to be. Sometimes writing just seems like another task and I need inspiration. But the more I just make myself do it the easier it is for me to break through when I have blocks.

January 4th Thanks for the replies Katheryn and Michelle. I do belong to an online writers group but the problem seems to be that they are more interested in the short, romantic type writings. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that but what I am trying to write is leaning toward a different genre. I find that some blogging sites have turned out to be more of "just leave a cute graphic comment " site than anything else. That seems to be what a lot of marketers and bloggers are doing on these sites. They then wonder why they are getting no recognition or not making any money. If you write about what you know and write good articles it can still be hard in the blogging world. Everyone is doing it so the competition is increasing.
Thanks for your comments. If you would lets keep this going and maybe we can come up with something that works. Reply

January 2nd Well written, Michelle! I find the accept part to be particularly significant. Coming from a design background, I am used to critiques. But in this blogging world, I'm still trying to find my voice, while keeping the grammar and typo's in check! All (well, most) feedback is good, it's just important to keep it all in perspective. Good luck with your resolutions!

December 2007 Great Article!! Being a writer I know the frustration. Currently I am going through one of my writer funks. This has really been going on a long time and I am having trouble pulling out of it. I have one of the weirdest human stories around yet I can not seem to get it on paper. The story involves a missing child case back in 1957. I have the real life ending which is totally different to what was accepted back in 1957. Yet my brain fizzles out when it comes to getting the story on paper. The story is a story of hope but where is my brain when I need it?
No one can help a writer get out of these funks except the writer themselves. There is no pill to take that will help. (I hate pills anyway.) I am definitely going to buy the book you mentioned. I have read about it before and writers say it is very useful. If anyone should know it would be Stephen King. Thanks for the uplift. Feel free to contact me if you want. Joyce Sanders Reply

December 2007 Thank you for the comment, Joyce. I do suggest you get King's book. I've never been a fan of his horror writing, but I sure am a fan of his nonfictional accounts of struggling as a writer in the beginning of his career.
As for your frustrations of not being able to put the ideas on paper, have you considered joining a writers' group? They can probably help you best unless you perhaps take a writing course at a college. While only the writer can get out of a funk, s/he can enlist the help of others for a push start. Happy New Year! Michele Reply
