Testimonials -

Common sense here really. Having testimonials quickly lets users know that your site is legitimate, and puts real experiences out in the open for all to see.

Placing your seals, above the fold -

I would highly recommend placing your BBB and SSL seals above the fold. This kind of small tweak can make an impact on the bottom line.

Privacy Policy -

Most sites have them, but some do not link to them site wide. If you have not made this document accessible across the entire site, then I would recommend doing so. The privacy policy is just another tactic to reassure your authority to the user.

Abandoned Shopping Cart Emails -

This is a tactic most folks neglect to use. Acquiring an email beforehand is necessary to pull this off. You would be surprised how many people will come back and order, after they have left the cart. At first glance these are simple, basic points, but as you mention common sense isn't always common.

Every actionable site (lead gen / subscription / sales ) should review this checklist. Even if they opt to not include one or more of these steps they are important elements to evaluate and consider.

Good advice... I can't believe how many times I've seen sites put their seals at the very bottom of the page. It makes no sense!
