October 2007 One thing new webmasters must also consider is keyword research. You need to choose the best keywords to target and base the rest of the website around them. Also ensure you have analytics in place from the beginning, because there is no use performing SEO if you don't know how it's going!

November 2007 Nice basic overlay.
I'd add this keyword selector tool link to the conversation. it's a very basic tool that provides decent keyword search data (albeit, a bit outdated - you'll find results from january 2007) and will give you the frequencies of a particular search term and of those keywords related to it. and if anyone knows of a better tool (or if this one isn't being used much) please let me know! September 2007 I would also add that there are occasions where it's better not to use the Meta Description and Meta Keywords. Those need to be unique to each page. Many large e-commerce sites are incapable of producing unique Descriptions and Keywords tags. It's better not to use them at all than to have them be the same on every page.
