Re: What Will Paid Search Look Like In Year 2010?
Asked by Al-Scillitani

Question:
Will Google, Yahoo, & MSN still be the top players?  Do you see anymore mergers/buyouts?

My Response:

Thanks Al for such a thought provoking question. I think however that the answer is not in M&A but more in R&D.

With Google's continued thought leadership in the area of information aggregation and context based advertising, it's less about the other search companies and more about new products and channels for Google to aggregate and advertise.

Look to the growth of Goog411 and Google Maps along with the realization of Gumbunto and GPhone followed by the expansion into their newly purchased bandwidth and forays into GPS Navigation systems.

This will be the future not of search, but of intent based, geo specific, recommendation centric content delivery.

The next questions:

How much privacy will we be willing to sacrifice for the connivence of a Google connected life?
What new methods and opportunities will we, as marketers, have to both reach and target our respective markets?

I still disagree. It was only 3 weeks ago i said this: "Look to the growth of Goog411 and Google Maps along with the realization of Gumbunto and GPhone followed by the expansion into their newly purchased bandwidth and forays into GPS Navigation systems."

Sense then I have heard about a $200 google pcs being sold by wal-mart and the new google andriod phone OS with the OHA.

Search is the past, attention based, historically and locationally responsive content is the future.

Adam,

I still think there is a huge opportunity for some company to come, what will seem like, out of nowhere and be a major player.  All they need to do is focus on customer service and present a quality product (facebook????).  The customer service and lack of knowlege of some of the reps in all the 3 top paid engines is horrible and it is getting worse.

Well, check out what is defined as non-personally-identifiable information (therefore shared with third parties): IP address, profile information, aggregate user data, and browser type, from users and visitors to the site.

That's my online persona's adn right here and they have it (I don't think they care about my name at this point)

There's the info they get from you, then there's the one you deliberately publish yourself, like Twitts. Which one is it better to have for advertisers to target you? I'll go for an ego-centric Web, one where the info evolves around you in equations with your environment.
