07 Dec Let's talk about brand monitoring... What are your favorite tools? What techniques have you found useful? What companies are emerging as pioneers in this space? Are there any new web apps dabbling in this space? When we speak of "monitoring" is that just collecting bits or is that responding, analyzing, interpreting, reporting, etc.?

According to Scott Brinker's (Chief Marketing Technologist) article - Marketing in the semantic web (http://www.chiefmartec.com/2008/03/marketing-in-th.html) we need to take charge and learn how to do it ourselves. My personal experience within the semantic web/marketing cross-over space is zero. The tools (development) I have played around with require a steep learning curve and that puts people off. In fact, I did a quick search on sourceforge.net and there is nothing happening in the cross-over space at all (and these guys tend to be early adopters that are up for a challenge). So maybe we need to collectively come up with some ideas of what we want rather than just talk about what's out there. Me, I love being proactive - I could really do with something that allows greater capabilities in understanding motivations - for segmentation - I'd love to be able to capture the inspiration/emotion/intent behind why someone decided to write a review for one online article (click a particular link, buy at a particular time) and not another and how that can be translated into a motivation to invest in something. Then maybe discover how this motivation ties in with those of others and find out if there is sameness in totally different behaviours to reveal segments in new ways. Just a thought :-) Reply
