I just saw on facebook SMX has joined up with Barry Smyth's Search Strategies to create SMX Sydney. That's great news for Australia - I look forward to seeing Australian Gooruze members there.

The SMX Sydney site's Contact Us link leads to a 404 and the SMX Sydney link isn't live - just goes to SMX.com.

I have only been to three Webmasterworld.com conferences in the US, where there is meaty information to be gained and where you can network with top experts.  The Aussie ones in the past have been much more lightweight - at best places to pick up new customers if you are an expert. Can we hope for an improvement here?

trainsem, I would have to agree with you 100%, the content quality of search marketing conferences in this country since the last SES Sydney in early 2002 has been pretty poor, if you not hearing a sales pitch your hearing 101 basics that you would not use anyway or the content is almost like reading a magazine rather than a tech manual. I saw that this need to be fixed & left my successful career in search marketing to start a media company dedicated to quality content for all skill levels. I ran the first multi-day, multi-steam search marketing conference in Australia since 2002 last year - Search Summit http://searchsummit.com.au/, had 10 well known international speakers come out including our Day One Keynote - Chris Sherman. The content was targeted at people that wanted to learn actionable information about how to improve a websites ranking or improve ROI on PPC. It was this conference that led to discussions opening up with the SMX producers - Third Door Media, as a result I have partnered up with Danny and the crew at TDM & Search Summit is now re-branded under the SMX label, hence - SMX Sydney. I also run a Seminar Series in Australia & New Zealand called Search Engine Bootcamp, which is specifically targeted at people with mid level skills that are striving to get to the next level, these are held around 5-6 times a year in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra & Auckland. Also, I am involved in the content development and speaker selection for two other events run by Hannover Fairs (Emarketing & SEO Conf @ Cebit) & Reed Business Information (Search School).
