31 Jan This post is from from my other blog here Stumbleupon has added some enhanced features to allow you to give an extra nod of approval to someone who has written an exceptional review, and also a way to give a less favorable opinion of a reviewer. I think these will be great features if people use them fairly

I have been slacking a little over the last month on the updates, so time to play catch up. First of all some big news, Blogcatalog has now surpassed MyBlogLog in traffic levels, if you believe Alexa data. They are in exactly the same niche, and share plenty of users, so whilst I don't trust Alexa data extensively, this is a significant achievement considering it wasn't long ago when people had trouble differentiating the two services.

29 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I always have people asking me about keyword research and defining a niche - this is a useful guide
29 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I just spotted that Daniel had discovered this post 6 months ago, but didn't write anything in the review. Now that it has a review written, it will be interesting to see if traffic picks up Will you find this useful? Well in my opinion it is one of the most in depth Wordpress SEO tutorials in existence, but some of the geeky stuff isn't for the faint hearted. I am always happy to answer questions in the comments.
28 Jan This post is from from my other blog here Lee Odden was kind enough to invite me to the Fast Company beta, I assume he just imported his contacts from LinkedIn or Gmail (I hope he didn't use Gmail because of security risks) so I have had a snoop around, added a profile and this blog to their list of feeds. From what I can tell they have been live for over 1 month now, it is possible I received invites before and didn't respond to them, along with the other 20+ invites I seem to receive to every new social networking platform. I thought it would be worth writing a ...

25 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I had intended my next post to be a small tribute to the great articles that have been selected as finalists for this year's Semmys, with links to all the finalists and a subtle link through to the SEO category where one of my articles was selected as a finalist.
24 Jan This post is from from my other blog here Asking for votes is beneath me... bah... vote for me, vote for me, vote for me, vote for me ;) It is great to have content recognised by such notable industry peers as being worthy of the 5 finalists
23 Jan This post is from from my other blog here At the end of last year Donna wrote "Some Days I Wish This Blog Were Private So I Could Share More" giving some vague but interesting hints as to how certain links can give a site a boost, and how the benefit of those links decreases if they are removed at a later date. This was especially significant for me at the time, because I was struggling with a problem which I couldn't solve. A few days later 5ubliminal posted, "If I Told You… I'd Have To Kill You" - a simlar idea, again specific to SEO techniques but with a few ...

20 Jan This post is from from my other blog here It looks like Bidvertiser have worked fast to address the problems many bloggers noted about their new feed advertising solution a short while ago and have come up with a way so that you can now use Bidvertiser using your existing feeds, and still use Feedburner as before, so that it doesn't affect your stats, and most importantly your feed readers. From the Bidvertiser Blog To address this, we have now launched 3 unique solutions: 1. WordPress Plugin to allow you to seamlessly embed the BidVertiser Ads in your feeds. You can download the plugin from your publisher account. 2. Solution for FeedBurner that ...
19 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I Sphunn this one earlier, but think it worth Stumbling too as whilst the post might touch a nerve, it is interesting none the less. Stuart possibly touches a few nerves, because his stats are open to interpretation and the way people respond to comments had a significant influence on the results, but I think people can learn from it anyway.
18 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I have been quite vocal in my encouraging Aweber to add some more control to the way they handle RSS to Email, and I am glad to say they have now added some very flexible date and time based controls. This means that they totally blow Feedburner Email subscription away as far as features are concerned. Apart from one important aspect. Exclusive: Aweber Will Soon Report Email Sububscriber Numbers To FeedburnerIn the announcement Justin Premick mentioned This is just one of a number of enhancements we'll be making to the Blog Broadcast tool. Stay tuned… I probed a little deeper and we can expect to ...

But that has changed somewhat overnight OpenAds are adding a free hosted version of their sofware, though it is currently in closed beta. Even with the improvements they made with version 2.4, and certainly those changes were critical for this move to make it more resource efficient, they are going to need some hefty infrastructure in place to serve all the ad units for ...

The correct 2 letter code should be UK for UK affiliates - I have have US border officials berate me over that so it must be true. I have now had Tim berate me over this in the comments and GB is the correct ISO format VAT Required for Euro affiliates - I think this sets the bar too high ...

The nominees this year are highly controversial, because they are inspired or originated from Matt's own reading list, and are the posts which he highlighted in his monthly roundup posts as being the most important for his clients and subscribers to read if they missed them.
As such, the Semmys represent a subset of the content that is created, but possibly that ...
13 Jan This post is from from my other blog here I know a segment of my readers are sick to death with anything to do with Google PageRank updates, and I haven't even bothered mentioning the most recent update up until now... there wasn't really anything newsworthy in it. I just spotted a story on Sphinn that will likely get deleted because it is all in Russian - the Google Directory has apparently been updated from DMOZ data from 08/01/2008 (European date notation) That wouldn't be significant other than Google lists pagerank alongside the listings in their version of DMOZ
I have highlighted a few sites that as far as I am aware ...

It has been a while since Andy Jenkins and Brad Fallon have launched something new, Stompernet in 2006 raked in over $18M in the first 24 hours, with the help of many top name marketers working being the scenes including John Reese, Jeff Walker and Frank Kern, along with their exceptional faculty trainers.
The most important factor - despite a significant monthly ...
10 Jan This post is from from my other blog here Lets face it, bloggers love stats and rankings, even if they are based upon meaningless data. For some it is an ego thing, or just a measure of their own worth or progress to achieve whatever goals they have set for themselves, and for others it is monetary. If you want to sell advertising on your blog other than PPC or CPM based, you need to have some kind of carrot to wave at advertisers to encourage them to part with their advertising dollars. Adage Power 150Over the last few days for instance I noticed that Advertising Age have rejigged their ...

Lets take a little look at why they might have done this. Google Is A BusinessIt is actually quite a large business, and each division within a division is probably accountable for their own earnings. The Adsense referral program for new business is probably individually accountable. Current (Old) System EarningsBased upon quarterly and yearly reports, Google on average pay publishers only 29% of advertising revenue. Larger publishers probably get a larger piece of the action, so it is quite possible ...
08 Jan This post is from from my other blog here With my continuing internet connection frustration, I have had to prioritise work-flow, thus my posting schedule has been reduced, and regrettably I am a lot less responsive to comments and email. Here are just a collection of things I have looked at which are worthy of your time. Stompernet have yet another video (50 minutes) which contains some useful actionable items in the second half. I got to meet Armand Morin whilst I was in London and spent an hour or so with him and Kirt Christensen whilst skipping a session at a seminar. Among other things, Armand currently has 8000 blogs and ...
