Andy Beal today kicked off his Blog Marketing Tips For Probloggers series with an interesting look at post titles.

What Andy suggests is that you write a title to captivate or grab your readers attention, and then using the SEO Title Tag plugin, (though All in One SEO Plugin or Headspace 2 would equally work) optimize the titles further for best SEO results.

Thus you would add additional keywords and possibly change the keyword order.

This is something I have done a few times, but is not a universal strategy.

Initial Scraping and Syndication

For at least a few days after you have written a ...

The most believable April Fools are the ones with an element of truth, maybe I cut this one a little too fine to the wire as no one caught on, even though I posted mine a little after Darren had already posted with his PayPerTweet.

One section of this post contained totally false statements regarding a competition by Mahalo, but many bloggers offer similar incentives for links. The section in italics were the fabricated parts of this entry.

I am adjusting this post now that in some parts of the world it has now passed midday on 1st April.

Original Title: Mahalo For ...

Stumbleupon slipped out a new interface feature during the last 24 hours, and whilst I wouldn't regard it as ground breaking, it is actually useful, though they could have made it a little better.

My Shares

The My Shares feature is hidden in your inbox

View recent shares

Clicking through reveals a history of messages you have previously received through the "Send To" interface on the toolbar. If you haven't yet viewed items that have been sent to you, they won't be shown on this page.

My Shares

I must admit it was a little bit of a challenge grabbing a screenshot which didn't contain any self-promotional messages as ...

Whilst writing the last post about a marketing book survey I was also testing out a new Firefox plugin that is currently in beta, Zemanta

What Does Zemanta Do Exactly?

It adds editing functions to various popular online blogging interfaces, Wordpress (both .org and .com), Blogger and Typepad. These are the type of functions you could probably add a plugin for if you are using Wordpress on your own hosting, but wouldn't be available for Blogger, Typepad and Wordpress.com users.

That makes it something worth taking a careful look at for niche marketers, even if you use WordPress for most of your blogs, ...

Chris from Catdynamics is currently running an extensive survey on the buying habits of people involved in web development, seo and online marketing.

It looks like the survey will provide some interesting data

I must admit I found myself answering "other" a fair amount, though I might not be typical.

5, 12 & 19 Other (interest plus to see if it would be of interest for an affiliate review / promotion)

22. For me personally it is either direct email from the publishers, or an affiliate recommendation either on the web or via email. A second option, though still primarily by affiliates would be various ...

I honestly didn't pay David to write this, and I doubt I would have highlighted one of the key reasons my Wordpress SEO article is still one of the best out there. From the page: "WordPress SEO Masterlass for Competitive Niches - andybeard.eu - This is my favourite of the three, it uses a great case study, and provides some great information on SEO for WordPress. I would say that this is a ultimate guide to WordPress SEO." Why? I did it as a case study - sure some of the strategies are a little complicated for a beginner to understand, ...

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that Product Launch Formula 2 would be released soon and encouraged you to watch some video and sign up for more case studies in the build-up to the launch.

I know lots of people whilst they clicked through didn't bother

I deliberately didn't hype things, and I stated then that I don't intend to offer a bonus for Product Launch Formula 2 - those that could most benefit from it honestly wouldn't need one of the many bonuses lots of people are offering.

There are people offering to create complete products for you (pay someone at ...

For the last few months I have noticed a fairly substantial decline in my Alexa rating despite an upturn in traffic after the Christmas holidays. The traffic hasn't been as high as during the PageRank updates in October 2007, but certainly higher than the average for most of last year, even factoring in some downturn in Stumbleupon traffic.

Quantcast provide real data because I am Quantified with their code embedded in every page

We can compare that data with Alexa

I have also had some incompatibility problems with a few users of Internet Explorer with some of the Javascript widgets, though the errors ...

I have simply had enough of leaving what I feel are worthy contributions to the discussion on blogs using the Akismet plugin for comment spam, only for the comments not to appear, or worse, seeing pingbacks from the 100s of blogs that scrape my RSS feeds, but not my own pingbacks appearing.

I am going to have to come up with an alternative way to comment

The false positive percentage in my personal experience must be the wrong side of 50% in recent weeks for comments, especially on blogs where I haven't commented before, and I have a feeling it is probably ...

I spotted this article on Techmeme from Om Malik suggesting that PicApp could provide free stock photos from the likes of Getty. Possibly useful for some niche blogs if you want to avoid legal problems.

Unlike most people I read terms and conditions which seems to be almost an exact copy of their policy. They may be identical in content

Here is an example

Using PicApp

5. By this Agreement, PicApp grants any User or Registered User (as defined below) a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to perform any of the following permitted uses with the Visual Content ("Permitted Uses"): use, publish online, publicly display and ...

I am finding Friendfeed to be a much better way to find out quickly what my friends are Stumbling. It doesn't limit me to only 200 friends and I can see all their recent Stumbles I noticed Friendfeed is also listed in Feedburner, but as only one subscriber - it would be good if it was listed as every friend being a feed subscriber if people open their Friendfeed within the last week.

From the article:- "One can argue (as I would) that Apple's product secrecy is worth tens of millions of dollars in publicity every year. Or, one can argue that Apple spitefully pissed away even more valuable publicity by shutting down Think Secret. (You'd be wrong, but you can reasonably argue that.) But Kahney, in the course of seven paragraphs in a single article, argues both. It boggles the mind. Kahney's own source claims the secrecy surrounding the iPhone introduction alone was worth $400 million dollars in publicity. Even if that's off by an entire order of magnitude, that's a lot of dough. ...

How would a human differentiate between the original source for a piece of content on the web, and a syndicated or splogged copy?

One of the most important factors would almost certainly be the comments.

What is one of the primary reasons people click through from an RSS feed to actually visit a blog?

Almost certainly it is either to read comments others have made, or to make one of their own. It is not to view advertising... at least for most.

How would a machine, such as Google differentiate between original source and whether a piece of content is valuable to include in ...

Robert Scoble asked earlier today if Twitter is Now Reliable?

I have been using Twitter a little more than normal over the last week, maybe it will last. During that time I have been looking at the reliability of consuming Twitter content via various tools (no I haven't tested everything).

Last night was actually a very good opportunity to do some data analysis, because Robert was very active on Twitter, with lots of updates in a very short period of time.

Could you follow the conversation on every platform?

Twitter Web Interface

The first interface I tested was the Twitter web interface.
