How about questions like this:

  • How can I extend my products and services out onto the Web so that visitors can experience them?
  • What valuable services compliment my product or service?
  • What valuable services appeal to my prospects, even if they are unrelated to my company's offering?
  • What would appeal to my customers' ...

Ross Fadner of Online Media Daily's "Around the Net" is one of the best online news editors around. I say this because he's good, but also because he seems to always direct me to news that I need when I need it.

Today he pointed us to an article on how a person's buying habits can reflect the buying habits of those connected to them in a social network.

I think this estimate is low. Online ad spending is going to increase 13.4% over last year's levels according to TNS. Ad this to your prospectus if you're building a customer community and want to sell advertising as a revenue stream.

Aren't we going to have to accelerate things faster than this, though? I mean, this results in 7.2% of the ad spend going to online programs. Aren't people moving to a social/Internet media world at much faster rates?

I predict that within 24 months, MySpace.com will empty out after teaching tens of millions how to use HTML and CSS. Their users will retreat to niche networks where they will focus on more specific interests to create content and provide services to the Web at large.

Just watch as targeted niche social networks start to arise. You'll quickly find membership and camaraderie among those who are like you.

It's just human.

If you've never spent an evening that turned into midnight that turned into 2:00am on the Internet tonight is your night.I was just inspired by a poet named Rives who has a beautiful a view of the Internet, a view that I hope we are all working toward creating. He appears on an amazing site called TEDTalks. You can sleep when you're dead. Go on and watch for a few hours.

Well, there's more reason to go to your boss and ask to implement your social network strategy. Why? There's cover for him or her.

VPs of Marketing are not marketers. They're primarily political animals. And, as such, they often need cover for their decisions.

eMarketer offers a prediction for 2007 that offers the appropriate CYA for the politically minded VPoM or CMO.

Social NetworksWorldwide ad spending on online social networks should top $1 billion in 2007, up from an estimated $445 million this year. Fueling this growth ...
