Has Hotmail got their legals involved?

It looks like Plaxo has dumped Hotmail.

We are currently in the process of integrating the Plaxo upload address book widget on one of our sites, and overnight we noticed that Hotmail has suddenly been removed from the option list.

What could this mean?

See the 2 images below...

I was at Web 2.0 Summit last week and one of the more interesting sessions was the advertising session.

I was stunned to here Tacoda (now an AOL company) quote that their average CPM was $4.00!

And not in the least surprised to hear that Facebook was just $0.15. Actually I believe it is far worse than that. I have heard that Facebook actually doesn't quote CPM as their measure. Instead they price on a Cost Per Unique Visitor and the conversion rate is still low. I suspect the CPM is more like $0.05

Hear are some other notes I jotted down...

Was funny to watch the Yahoo! and MSN rep dodge the question and not quote an average CPM.

MSN then mentioned that with more brand advertisers coming online.... Search will continue to grow but won't be the major growth area... they think Video advertising will be.

MSN then said that Google gets too much credit for the click thrus. His argument goes something like this... we have a low click thru rate on our ads because they are brand ads, a user sees them, and then later on does a search for the brand at Google and clicks thru the Google search results to the brand's website. Therefore Google gets the credit for pushing the user, and we (MSN) don't get any credit. This IMO is 99.9% bulls$#t. He is just trying to justify the brand advertising on MSN. This may be relevant 0.1% of the time.

Openads is apparently ad serving technology you can download and install on your website to manage your own ads. You can also use it to manage all the other ad networks (Google, Yahoo, MSN) on your site.

We currently don't have an RSS feed for our latest activity page, and a few people have asked for it so I just found a website which creates feeds from websites.

Here is the feed address it created...

Let me know if it works for you or not.

By the way: we do have a request in with the techies to get a proper feed created

listening to a Cisco guy at Web 2.0 Summit.
He mentioned that they are experiencing 3-5 times the pageviews for NHL.com than a normal site.
He also mentioned that they introduced Christy Brinkley to NHL and over a THIRD of the community has linked to her (friended her I think he meant).

I was just sitting in the Web 2.0 Summit interview session between John Battelle and Mark Zuckerberg (god knows if I speled their names correctly), and Mark lets slip that in 3 months time Facebook has some big news in regards to an ad solution.

Note: This does not appear to be related to their Microsoft ad provider deal.

I am sitting in the first session on Advertising... boy this is a little boring.
If they were not so monotone I may be able to focus on what they are saying.

Have we made it clear enough that Gooruze is an Online Marketing focused site?

Ie: We expect the community to police the site and only allow News, Questions, and Advice Articles which are related to the topic of Online Marketing

I just reported a News item, that I didnt think was relating to Online Marketing.

Hi Gooruze,

I have a site usability question - would love your feedback on this...

On the homepage we have pop-ups that describe the link as you scroll your mouse over them... the only issue being that it is stopping me from clicking the link on most occasions.

Are you experiencing the same issue as me?

Thanks
Clay

I am starting to see a little confusion about where to post certain items on Gooruze.
It's possibly gaming, but I'm not brave enough to call it that yet

There are a lot of ways you can add content to this site, however the main activities are...
  1. Writing an article (publishing advice). Go here.
  2. Posting some industry news. Go here.
  3. Asking a question. Go here.
The main issue is that I have seen a couple items which may be more a question, or an article appearing in the news section. I am guessing this is due mainly to...
  1. News is given the highest real estate on the Gooruze homepage.
  2. Maybe this is what is typical in the established Online Marketing sites (ie: sphinn)
  3. We do not currently give enough real estate to latest articles on the Gooruze homepage.
Would love to hear your feedback.
