25 Feb This post is from from my other blog here As Chicago gets another 6-10 inches of snow I found the reciving of this joke to be quite timely. Now Im not saying its all that funny, but to those in the Midwest and many on the East coast as well - it has been our nasty snow filled winter. With out further ado, I present the snow joke. December 8 6:00 PM It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow! December 9 We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I’ve ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life! December 12 The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment! My neighbor tells me not to worry- we’ll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we’ll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I’ll never want to see snow again. I don’t think that’s possible. Bob is such a nice man, I’m glad he’s our neighbor. December 14 Snow, lovely snow! 8 inches last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn’t realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I’ll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn’t huff and puff so. December 15 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4×4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife’s car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that’s silly. We aren’t in Alaska , after all. December 16 Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel. December 17 Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should’ve bought a wood stove, but won’t admit it to her. God I hate it when she’s right. I can’t believe I’m freezing to death in my own living room. December 20 Electricity is back on, but had ...
25 Feb This post is from from my other blog here It has been another week, another list of great links such as this one or this one. I thought it was going to be a slow week as I was super busy at work and at night and missed a great deal of tweets but as I look, there are 19 great links. Every week I miss many great links and others I just find overdone. Thats why if you follow me on Twitter and think that there is some great article out there - let me know. Finds
18 Feb This post is from from my other blog here Finishing up month two or week 8 rather is V8 of the Twitter Link Finds. I did some cleaning of those that I follow and have been trying to make it a point to find different but interesting people to follow. Some new people found me this week and I found some - look for some different types of links next week (hopefully). Till then, enjoy the 14 links on Twitter you might have missed: Finds
17 Feb This post is from from my other blog here As I use Twitter more and more I have been talking to more and more people. The only problem is that when you are using the web interface you must type the person’s name in constantly. I often times have used Twitter’s site to go back to what I have missed but then used TwitterFox to reply. I can hit a small arrow within TwitterFox and quickly get a name to come up (its also spelled correctly). I was just on Twitter (read my Twitter review if you are lost) and realized that I can “reply to” people.
If you take a look after what each person has said, you will notice the small arrow. This is my favorite new finding this weekend. Amazing how something so small and simple can save me (and others) so much time. What simple “duh” type functionality have you recently found on a site you use that saves you a ton of time, any? If a fave site of yours has done a “duh” type UI fix let me know in the comments section.
14 Feb This post is from from my other blog here There seems to be more and more conferences each year. There is the usual Ad-Tech, SES, and SMX. Then there are smaller one offs such as ETail, Internet Retailer, and other events such as Woodstock 2.0 Expo. For a list of other off the beaten path conferences, take a look at a post from last year by Sugarrae. Last year I was able to make it to the usual conferences and a few others that were new to me (SES NY and SMX Advanced) and then there was the yearly voyage to Pubcon. This year looks to have a similar flavor but with a few twists. Here is a full list of conferences (if you know of others, please post them in comments as I want to expand beyond the usual suspects): missed etail - oh well. SES London Conference & Expo Feb 19-21 Affiliate Summit West February 24-26, 2008 SMX West - Santa Clara, CA (Feb 26-28) SES New York Conference & Expo Mar 17-20 SMX Munich (in German, April 8-9) SES Hamburg Forum Apr 10-11 SMX Sydney (April 10-11) Ad Tech San Fran April 16-17 SMX China (April 18-19) SMX Social Media - Long Beach, CA (April 22-23) SMX Madrid (in Spanish, May 20-21) SES Milan Forum May 27-28 SMX Advanced - Seattle, WA (June 3-4) Internet Retailer 2008 - Chicago June 9-12 SES Toronto Conference & Expo Jun 17-18, 2008 Ad Tech Chicago Aug 5-6 Affiliate Summit Boston (August 10-12, 2008) SES San Jose Conference & Expo Aug 18-21, 2008 Affiliate Summit New York City (October 5, 2008) SMX East - NYC - (Oct. 6-8) Blogworld Expo - Las Vegas - Sept 20-21 SMX London - November 2008 PubCon Las Vegas 2008 - Nov 11-14, 2008 SES Chicago Conference & Expo Dec 8-11, 2008 The bolded/highlighted conferences are still on the table for me - Ill figure out in the next week which ones Ill be attending. Anyone have any others I should think about prior to making a final decision? *Update: Pubcon has announced the dates for Vegas this year.
11 Feb This post is from from my other blog here I think I have officially moved Twitter Link Finds to Monday night - it just seems to be easier for me to do. Sundays I am always running late and have so much to do, I just cant seem to get the post out the door. This week there are some 16 links from the usual suspects and some new found linkers. I try and stay away from the obvious hot topics and items that you more than likely see 20 times a day. If you think I missed some or think I am doing a great job - let me know. Also - if you follow anyone on Twitter that you find damn interesting - let me know.
06 Feb This post is from from my other blog here Over the past few years I have averaged 3 to 6 conferences a year such as Pubcon, SES, and SMX. Chicago is also home to an SES, Ad-tech, Etail, and other smaller conferences and makes afternoon trips to see friends and check out vendors a snap. All of these conferences have one thing in common:exhibit halls where people are trying to recruit you to buy, sell, or partner with them on some level. Sometimes they are interesting and other times its just a waste of my time, but I go back as you never know what you will find there. This leads to a large number of vendors and in turn, sales people having my email and contact information. Depending on how sophisticated the conference is, there are different ways the vendor can get your information. Most of the time its a “Can I have your card so I can show my boss I talked to people” or “Let me scan your ID and you will qualify to win prize X” or lastly the “Put your card in the bowl and you can have swag/register to win more swag” type of come ons. No matter what method they use, they all in the end are simply trying to get your name, title, email and phone if possible. Cant blame them for trying can you?
04 Feb This post is from from my other blog here Another week, another list of finds from Twitter. Llast week’s Twitter Link Find was a short and I vowed to make up for it. I almost made it to 20 but with UFC, the Superbowl, and so much else going on I wasnt able to finish out strong over the weekend. In the group this week we have some Youtube videos, some Twitter talk, a funny image, Garbage Pail Kids (GPK), social media and more.
