17 Oct I just read an article about Twitter so I set up an account. How does this thing work? I can image myself really liking Twitter, but I don't have any friends who have it, and frankly, I don't care that much about what strangers are doing all day. No me gusta.

October 2007 Wow! I am getting so much great feedback from so many cool gooruze! Thanks so much for all the help. Don't be surprised if you start getting followed by some maljsmith character (that's me!)

October 2007 I thought the same thing. Who cares what I'm doing at any one moment and why would I care what they're doing? So I avoided joining Twitter...until about a month ago. I kept hearing CC Chapman talk about how cool it was on his podcast. Finally decided to give it a whirl. I found tons of Social Media folks online that I could follow and learn more about marketing, social media and the cool project s they're working on (as well as lots of just goofy personal stuff). It takes a while, but it's worth it. I recommend finding people in the industry whom you admire and follow them. Many of them will follow you back. You can strike up some nice new relationships with some very cool people.
Oh, and one geek if you want. :-) Reply

October 2007 I originally wondered the same thing but after following others in the industry for a few weeks, I now understand it more. Here's a "newbies guide to twitter" post by Chris Brogan:

October 2007 Definitely not pointless. Even this morning I picked up a breaking story via Twitter. See my Gooruze post on Twitter here.

October 2007 I have an account but not the desire (discipline) to update it regularly. Mainly beacuse none of my friends are on it. Another furstration I have is that SMSing Twitter from Australia can be quite costly, even when you are on a good phone plan. I do follow a number of other people's Twitts, as it is a great source of information. It can be extremely useful from that point of view. Reply

October 2007 There's a lot of chatter and info that appears on Twitter, but never makes it to a blog. Robert Scoble, Jason Calacanis, Mike Arrington, and Steve Rubel all share thoughts on Twitter that don't reach their blogs. Even if you don't use it to connect with your friends, just follow the movers and shakers - you'll learn a lot.

October 2007 Yeah, I am starting to learn a little bit more about Twitter and I am using it a lot more...but mainly for personal stuff. It's good to know there are more people out there than just the "strangers" I thought there were. I am all for a tool that helps me learn stuff, but is also fun like Twitter. Hey! Maybe that's why I like Gooruze!

October 2007 The best way to think of Twitter is a gigantic chat room where you choose which members you want to hear, and where members can choose to hear you. My mileage with it has varied frankly, but there are some people who swear by it. My suggestion is to hop in and start following people you already know on there, and see how it works for you.

October 2007 I don't doubt that it can get addicting! I just don't think any of my friends have time for it. I have been an avid facebooker for years now (weird to think!) and so have all of my friends - I guess we are set in our ways... Ok, I'm giving it another chance! You may have turned me around!
BTW, you're my only Twitter friend as of yet!
