24 Oct I revamped a failing Adwords campaign as my first try at PPC. After reading books on strategy and trying different plans, I launched the campaign and it did well in my opinion. Online it looked like my clicks were up as well as my CTR. It also even looked like I was saving money. But when it came down to it, we really weren't having as many impressions. So, I just figured that was because I narrowed down my keywords using the search restrictions (broad, exact, etc). In my opinion, I have a good campaign, just not the conversions I need. Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeves that they would be willing to lend a fledgling Adwords addict like myself?

October 2007 I thought my words were too broad - maybe I have narrowed them down too much? This might just be one of those situations where you look at one thing for too long you start to overlook the errors.

October 2007 Well, it's almost embarassing to admit, but it is probably obvious that I am really new to all this. As far as tracking goes, I only use Google Analytics. I run weekly reports about keyword costs and spending, but I haven't set anything up for conversion tracking basically because I am not comfortable working with that aspect of the site. The site I am working on PPC for is a Web-based software offering a free trial.

October 2007 Without being able to track cost/rev to the keyword level, you are pretty much flying blind. You can be spending $200 on a keyword that is only bringing in $50 of rev. "I only use google analytics." Google analytics is a great tool. If you have it set up through adwords with correct GA conversion tag, click on traffic sources, adwords, google cpc. Then you will see an ecommerce text link above the chart. This should give you a lot of the info you need to help you optimize the campaign. Reply

In otherwords, can you tell me a keyword cost X number of dollars over the last 30 dyas and generated x dollars in revenue? ROI Reply
