I found something else to hate about office 2007 recently as I attempted to add a contact to Outlook, this time on a newly configured laptop.

Like I usually would, I right clicked on the e-mail address of the person who sent me the message, and chose “Add to Contacts”. I added the necessary information, and immediately upon attempting to save, I was greeted with this dialog box asking me to insert the area code of my location, which I had no use for.

When I attempted to cancel, the dialog box simply opened again, forcing me to enter the zip code. ...

SEMpdx and SAO IPSIG are teaming up to bring a joint internet marketing event to Portland, next Tuesday,February 5, 2008.

Similar to other SEMpdx hot seat events, there will be up to five websites reviewed, and site owners may address any questions the wish, from search engine optimization, to linking strategy, to pay per click management, or anything else they desire.

No stone may be left unturned in this rare opportunity to share world class knowledge and information. I’ll be one of the panelists, and if you attend, please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself.

In previous versions of MS Office, it was possible to modify your “save attachment as” dialog box with folders that you prefer, but in Office 2007, that option appeared to be gone thanks to this blog post I now know how to do it in the current version of Office.

All you have to do is browse to the folder you wish to add, then right-click in the blank area below your icons on the left, when “Add [Folder Name] will appear, and you can choose that option instantly adding it to your dialogue box.

Since formatting my computer and reinstalling Office ...

I just noticed a change in Google’s listings, and I hope it’s permanent. Google local is now showing 10 single line listings above the regular organic listings, instead of 3 multi-line listings, and they’re showing all 10 just taking up the same space.

Not only that, but now there are also 10 organic listings too, (instead of just 7) below the locals, so this doubles the total amount of unpaid listings on page 1, assuming you’re searching for a local business, or, if you’re marketing for one.

Nice ;)

MiaDonna.com requested one of my free website review videos based on what I consider to be the top SEO 101 factors.

Since they have over 170 pages on the site, I went on a bit longer than usual, just over 14 minutes, and also made some specific recommendations, which I’ll try to do more of in the future.

You can see the video here or request your own free site review if you’re willing to share the findings with others, as MiaDonna was.

My goal with these free reviews is for users to be able to read my top 10 SEO 101 Factors ...

ces-wowpen.jpgWowpen One of the few things I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show that really made me say “Wow” was this invention, that enables the user to write on a regular pad of paper with a wireless pen sized device, and have the words pictures and characters instantly displayed on the computer screen. I got to try it out and it worked flawlessly.

There were other similar items at the show that involved a cabled unit, which in retrospect might actually be better to prevent loss, but the cabled units that I saw also ...

Nothing from CES that I picture here will change the world, but it was stuff I found pretty cool all the same. Most of the pictures I took on the fly as I was going by, and I really have no other information about them, so I’m unable to provide a link. However, I’m sure that they’ll be show up in the search engines and in the stores soon… Well, most of them…

My trip to the Consumer Electronics Show this year was shortened to just one day, so from the time the doors opened until I left for the airport, I roamed up and down the aisles and squeezing through the hordes trying to find the “next big thing”.

CES is made up of several shows all crammed together at the Las Vegas convention Center (home, auto, audio, video, etc) with a separate show held at the Sands Expo / Venetian called “Inovations Plus”, which used to be called “Emerging Technologies”. Because my time was limited, and because that was really my area ...

Searchfest 2008, Oregon’s annual search marketing conference will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008, at the Oregon Zoo’s Cascade Crest Banquet Center.

We’ve now got the prices posted, the sign-up form live, and I’m sorry, but it’s already too late for you to be the first person to sign up…

That’s okay thougfh, because it’s not too late to save some money, and if you’re already a member of SEMpdx you can save 50% compared to the door price for non-members!

These early bird discount prices will only be good through the first of February, because we’re budgeting now for headcount, catering ...

Sorry, here’s another quick thing that sucks about Office 2007, this time in Outlook. (There are so many things to hate in Office 2007 that I’ve added now added MS Office to my blog as it’s own subcategory of Microsoft for future rants.)

A client emails me back their end of month report - right click the attachment, choose “save as” and I get “Cannot Save The Attachment”

Why not? Who knows? I don’t have time to guess, Microsoft.

The file is not corrupt, I was able to rename it and save, but if I were the average user of Office in a ...

Somehow, there are still some slots available for site reviews at next Mondays SEMpdx Search Engine Marketing Hot Seat event.

For those who don’t know, Vanessa is a top speaker on the conference circuit. Formerly head of Google’s Webmaster Central team and more recently Zillow.com, Vanessa has transitioned to features editor at Search Engine Land and to helping startups at Ignition Partners.

I won’t be in attendance this month, and will instead be affiliate hunting at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas,  but it promises to be another great Portland search marketing event.

The January Hot Seat event will feature a presentation ...

In August of 2005, I put some money into the new Ask sponsored listings program, and after a couple of months of practically no activity, I completely forgot about it.

Today, over two years later, I received an email telling me that I may be entitled to a refund for failure to prevent fraudulent clicks, directing me to a website with a claim form to fill out.

Can this be for real? Did anyone really get enough clicks of any kind from an Ask sponsored listings campaign to pursue a lawsuit? ;)

Here’s a copy of the letter -
