  G'Day, I'm Mark Garner and I specialise in helping businesses dramatically improve their online results, especially conversion rates, through my own specialist consultancy - Breakthrough Ecommerce.

I've spent too much time hanging out with direct marketers and have adopted their hard nosed approach to only bothering with the results that matter. IE: Those that you can bank.

It's a simple concept: You sell, you eat. You don't sell, you don't eat.

I prefer hard evidence to woolly concepts, so I'm not a fan of what often passes for modern marketing. This upsets a lot of my colleagues, but my clients love me, so I'm happy.

I've spent too much time around designers as I'm now starting to appreciate white space, something I never thought would happen.

Why The Silk Merchant?

a) I wasn't paying attention when I registered on Gooruse and it's too late to change it now.

b) It's an allusion to my first post about The Emperors New Clothes

c) I have a fondness for Italian silk ties

d) One of my ancestors was a silk trader in the jungles of Siam two centuries ago
