What is SEO?

Ok… I noticed a few comments on Sphinn (http://sphinn.com/story.php?id=66877)about my last post… (why don’t peeps comment on posts here?)… and decided to respond… Hugo Guzman (http://sphinn.com/user/view/profile/hugoguzman)said; Wow. I usually like his post's, but I think that he burned himself on this one. My two main issues are as follows: 1) He says that ranking matter, but uses keyword research as the main foundation for his assertion. There's a big difference between performing keyword research - a key SEO element - and using rankings as a basis for SEO analytics (the latter is what most people are referring to when they say...

SEO is dead, ranking is useless and other fairy tales Well peeps, it seems it’s that time again and peeps are shovelling crap once more. Not that it’s anything new, but worth me taking time away from my sabbatical to rant off a bit. First off we have the ever popular ‘SEO is a dead man’ routine that is making the rounds again of late. Let me explain this to you right now; as long as there is organic search, SEO will be viable. It’s a fact. It truly behoves me to see folks believing that the future of search doesn’t include optimizers. Are these folks merely trying to put fellow SEOs (and the competition) off the track? Dunno…. As a search geek guy that follows developments from universal and personalized search (http://www.huomah.com/search-engines/learn-seo/fire-horse-guide-to-personalized-search.html), phrase based (http://www.huomah.com/search-engines/algorithm-matters/phrase-based-optimization-resources.html) (and semantic) approaches all...

We’ll F@%k up the competition Looking for new ways to rise above the pack? Here at AI we say; “If you can’t beat ‘em – destroy ‘em!” You’ve heard of reputation management services, but do you know about our anti-reputation management programs? We’re the company that keeps the rep managers in business. If you’ve got a competitor (or even a friend, spouse… we don’t care) that needs to be bitch slapped far and wide on the web, then you’ve come to the right spot. Here’s just some of the nightmare your target will face; Lost revenues Destroyed marketing campaigns PR staff breakdown Search engine sadness Mental instability for executives Hair loss (from pulling it out) Increased rep management costs. Email overflow and madness Internal stress and strife

Social news networking? Talk about a mash-up Just a quick note mention SocialMedian (http://www.socialmedian.com/) – a news aggregate, social voting and networking mish-mash that I am playing with (hat-tip to Nick Wilsdon (http://nickwilsdon.com/socialmedian-review-social-media/))…. As always I am at; theGypsy (http://www.socialmedian.com/theGypsy) - Not much to report at this time other than the fact I started a few groups where I will post news (and has RSS feeds imported). So far we have; The Search World (http://www.socialmedian.com/network/the-search-world)– which obiously will be covering all things search engine marketing related Collective Thoughts (http://www.socialmedian.com/network/collective-thoughts) – created on behalf of the gang and has not only the CT feed, but each of the team member’s blog feeds and added favs from around the web.

Building a better search engine We all know about the latest Google killer by now right? You know, Cuil (http://www.cuil.com/) (pronounced ‘cool’)… the relevance based search engine that boasts more pages in its index than the mighty peeps at the Plex? While there has been no lack of FAIL floating around after its recent launch, there are a few reasons why this Gypsy might just take a deeper look. The phrase based IR connection What I found interesting was that one Anna Patterson is on board... which itself might not mean much, but spare me a few moments to enlighten. She’s one of the ‘ex-Googlers’ that are part of the team at Cuil (along with hubby Tom). I know.. all falling in place now right? Ok.. a little further... ...let me quote from the management team page (http://www.cuil.com/info/management/); “Anna was the architect of Google’s large...
