Disqus announced this week the launch of the Disqus' API. So far, the API is young but allows you to handle some rudimentary parameters: "The methods provided are enough to let you write your own comment import tools, export tools, or even a custom Disqus plugin for your platform" What's so juicy about this API, and what is yet to come? On the Inquisitr, Duncan Riley breaks the news and offers a positive opinion of Disqus' move, arguing that it will allow newcoming 2.0 publishing tools like Habari to offer an ultra-performing commenting system. Louis Gray is also an enthusiast of the initiative. To ...

Most people I meet, even tech savvy individuals, are very confused by the multitude of different video platforms that exist out there. Usually, it's Youtube, and then the long tail of video platforms. So in this post, I will methodically compare Youtube, Revver and Viddler to explain the basic differences. I am leaving Dailymotion and Metacafe on the side simply because I have not been a power user of those two video platforms. I won't elaborate on their APIs, because it would be too long and too complex. So this post is mostly for non-developers curious to know the differences between ...

Since the Internet stepped in the music distribution game, the music industry is suffering. In a way, music labels have always over-priced music albums, so when it became easy to freely share music through P2P softwares, fans just left the stores to download their favorite songs online. Music juggernauts like iTunes have managed to build a stable music economy online, but for the Founders of Popcuts, that is not enough to tackle the economic crisis music artists are going through. For the newly-launched startup, it is not music distribution that needs to be redefined: Fans need to be rewarded for ...

Today, Click2Map is releasing a new feature that changes a few ground rules in the world of online mapping. The France-based map editor now offers its users the auto-clustering tool, which allows you to create a unique marker for spots where markers are overlapping each other. The map below shows where movie celebrities live in Hollywood. It perfectly illustrates the need to cluster markers to make the information accessible. The developers of Click2Map made it super easy for any map creator out there to customize the clustering rate of their maps' markers. If customizing is not your thing, you will find ...

In our latest interview, Charlene Li joins us to discuss the Groundswell – what it is, what it means to marketers and why trying to contain the groundswell just doesn’t work.. such as the ill-fated Streisand effect. Why its really about relationships, not the latest technology fad and how low-involvement brands can effectively leverage the Groundswell to create conversation and community.

A few weeks ago, I interviewed David Sifry, Founder and CEO of Offbeat Guides. For the screencasts, I went through the guide creation process on Offbeatguides.com, and created a guide for Rochester, the city used by David Sifry to illustrate his speech. Unfortunately, I was not planning to go to Rochester at all, but totally forgot to cancel the order I submitted. With the sharpest precision, today, ie 3 days before my fictional trip to Rochester, I received the guide to Rochester and decided that it should be part of the experience I must share on HyveUp. Link to original article. ...

No later than two weeks ago, I signed up to an ad network for HyveUp. After two weeks and no mentionable results, I took the ad down and forgot about the ad network altogether. "Second-tier advertising networks may have some of their own advertisers and publishers, but their main source of revenue comes from syndicating ads from other advertising networks" (Ad network, Wikipedia). Enters Pubmatic... On one hand, Pubmatic enables site publishers to earn more money by automating and optimizing the decision process for publishers. In other words, as a publisher, when you sign up to Pubmatic, simply link all of ...

The original problem you can probably identify to is the following: Let's say I want to check how many miles I have on my United Airlines account to see if I can fly for free next month. I have to login to the UA site, deal with an interface I am not used to, there's usually a lot of clutter to get to my account, and I have to search through all of my email accounts to find the matching login username and password I set 5 years ago. In other words, I never go on the UA site to ...

To introduce Offbeat Guides, here are a few numbers on the business of tourism: "In 2007, there were over 903 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 6.6% as compared to 2006 [...] arrivals grew at around 5% during the first four months of 2008, almost a similar growth than the same period in 2007. (tourism, Wikipedia)" Tourism is a growing economy. Online, all sorts of traveling-related services flourished: Flight and hotel search engines, social recommendations, social networks, travel-focused classifieds... 2 months ago, Offbeat Guides stepped in the game to create a new market segment: on-demand, personalized travel guides. Today ...

On Saturday, Henry Work over at Techcrunch shared a few updates on the development of the Crunchbase with the TC readership. More precisely, the article focuses on the integration of the Crunchbase API by the Apture team. At HyveUp, the Crunchbase is heavily relied on to find new startups and provide up-to-date information to our written reviews. So when Tristan Harris, CEO of Apture, contacted me to announce the news, I could only imagine how much time I was going to save with this new tool. HyveUp is not only a fan of the Crunchbase, we're also fans of what the ...
