Michael Arrington declared War on Facebook and is asking for as many negative stories on facebook as his readers can drum up. Whilst it is tongue in cheek (at least that is the way I read it), Facebook sparked his anger with the "poaching" of one of TechCrunches' employees. Michael writes: "But apparently the gravitational pull of Facebook and their stock options was enough to lure him away from TechCrunch. Congratulations to Ben, who will be missed...." Retaining staff is never going to be easy, especially when quality technical staff are required. "Poaching" or head hunting is going to occur as more and more start ups become semi mature (not to mention cashed up) and as new starts up hit the scene. And lets face it, the true value of a start up is its staff - because they are who get it off the ground and have the passion to stay with the company vision. Not to mention from a pure economics point of view - it is far cheaper to retain staff members than to have high turn over and the costs assocaited with recruiting, training and bringing up to speed new staff. There is also the customer perspective - never great for a customer to have mulitple account managers in a short time. Love to hear how others retain their staff - especially if you are competing against the deep wallets of Facebook / Google etc. | ||||||||
