As online video continues to grow as a marketing tool, the new video sitemap protocol launched by Google in partnership with  Sitemaps, will be welcomed by website owners and online marketers around the world.

The new sitemap standard allows website owners to submit an xml sitemap of their video content including relevant meta data to Google to make it easier for the search giant to index your content. The outcome should mean more comprehensive and relevant search results in Google's video search (and Universal search eventually).

At this stage, no other search engines (e.g. Yahoo! or Live Search) have announced support for the new protocol, but for the sake of simplicity and consistency - this support follows shortly. Click here to view a sample of the the video sitemap
