There's no denying the rapid growth of social media and more specifically the blogosphere...and while Yahoo! struggles to break Google's stranglehold on the search market, it's release of Yahoo! Shortcuts for Wordpress is aimed at helping it tap into this phenomenal growth in blogs to increase traffic to its other search services.

The Yahoo! Shortcuts plug-in allows bloggers (using the Wordpress platform) to enhance the content of their blog posts by automatically associating Yahoo! content to keywords found in the blog content. The Yahoo! content is displayed via hover over windows (think Snap Snapshots with Yahoo! content).

The key difference between Yahoo! Shortcuts and other auto content creators like Snapshots is that the blogger gets to choose what content is displayed and how it's displayed.

Tapping into the blog market is an important strategy by Yahoo! and could provide a welcome burst of exposure for its range of services....but time will tell whether the shrewd blogosphere embraces the new Shortcuts.
