December 2007 You are correct, Matt stated that they are looking at them http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/whitehat-seo-tips-for-bloggers/ but not that they are equal. I am not 100% sure why google treats them differently. However for usability reasons, even if they are equal, use the dash instead. An underscore can not be seen when it is included in a link. Reply
