If ever you needed confirmation that the widget market is exploding, eBay is offering a US$10,000 incentive to developers (and digital agencies) to produce an eBay widget for their eBay Affiliate Community using either Flash or Flex.
Whilst rich media widgets are nothing new, trail blazing developers and agencies (such as Big Spaceship, Schematic and Glue) have seen the huge potential in developing (and repurposing) traditional web based widgets, applications and rich media content as stand-alone desk-top based rich branded applications or widgets.
Leading the way in enabling developers and agencies, in converting their content to a desk-top based format , is Adobe AIR. This new technology has received glowing endorsements from the likes of NASDAQ, Nickelodean, AOL, eBay and SalesForce.com who are all trialling proof-of-concept desktop based applications and widgets built leveraging AIR.
Client-side, desktop based widgets provide a unique interactive communication channel and enable a one-to-one direct marketing relationship between users and their favorite brands.
