I have lifted this from Facebook...

'About iLike:
iLike lets you add music and videos to your profile, dedicate songs to your friends, and see who’s going to what concerts. Bonus: get free mp3s matching your tastes, and beat your friends at the Music Challenge'

...I think the dedicating songs bit is clever because it's like music sharing.  If I was marketing the R.E.M album, this is what would interest me the most.

I don't know what their market would be these days, but I reckon they're one of those bands who transcend different generations.  Could be a good move.

Do bands pay to get on iLike?

Could be a great model....offer free services to major labels and then charge the indies to have their mp3s associated with them...

hmmmmm.

I think it's free, and it looks like it's not just for facebook (I assumed it was because haven't encountered it anywhere else).  There's more info on the iLike website, the 'Take the Tour' in the Artist Signup pages is a good overview.

thanks.

interesting seeing the music industry try to adapt to the web....

seems more like it is falling on the shoulders of the individual artist to promote themselves.
