April 2008 While many things are different between online and offline, people are still people.
Think back to high school. If Jane the common nerd wears something out of style, it's no big deal. If Sue the head cheerleader wears it, then it's the new style. It works the same way online. If a stranger tells you to do XYZ and your website will rank on the first page of Google in a week you probably wouldn't believe him. But if some A list SEO guru were to post the same information on their blog, everyone would buy it hook, line, and sinker. Seems to me it's a cross between popularity and experience with popularity being exponentially more important. But that's just my $.02 worth. Reply
