According to a post by SEO-er Richard Burckhardt, Flickr has started enforcing its terms of service on accounts being used for commercial purposes, and in his client's case, that was Search Engine Optimization.

Here's an excerpt of the notice from Flickr for the TOS infringement:

Flickr account “xxxxxxxx” was deleted by Flickr staff for violating our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne

# Don’t use Flickr for commercial purposes.

Flickr is for personal use only. If we find you selling products, services, or yourself through your photostream, we will terminate your account.

So it seems that image SEO will need to find a new home, if Flickr continues to clamp down.

But I also agree that sometime too much intrusive, or un-ethical, way to promote and catch visibility in social network looks like spamming. I begin to have more and more company using people oriented medium like LinkedIn or Facebook with putting company logo instead of people...
