I lend myself more towards digital marketing, coming from a background of online, mobile and digital TV - but then that was back in the day when çhannels' was the hot phrase of the moment, Channel Marketing - what happened to that? Does it still exist within íntegrated agencies' that are offering integrated channels of communication ...?

it's an evolving answer...and really depends on the context. Over the years, the expression we use to describe the space has changed with trends, re-invention, buzz branding and so on...

anyone remember the term "eMarketing"

for the masses - most (non techie types) think "online" covers everything...not realizing that facets such as mobile etc. don't really rely on the net - hence not technically "online". I think the audience of the conversation also heavily dictates the more appropriate term...for top end (agency types) digital makes more sense, while SMEs etc still think electronic/digital = online.

so when confusion reigns - what does Wiki say:

Digital Marketing is the practice of promoting products and services using digital distribution channels to reach consumers in a timely, relevant, personal and cost-effective manner.

Online Marketing (redirects to "Internet Marketing") Internet marketing, also referred to as online marketing or Emarketing, is marketing that uses the Internet.

well - there you go...

Good point about "online" not covering mobile. However, I don't think any potential customer is going to search for "digital marketing", hence my decision to call myself an "internet" marketer. ;-)

I'm online marketing now - My view is that everything we do from the computer - email, or web is "online". My current focus is on converting our online leads and attracting online traffic as that is where there are huge volumes of small businesses seeking solutions. I see digital as unleasing the power of the phone beyond the computer  - I don't do much of that yet.

Hi Marc

In regards to ineedhits I believe we work in the "online marketing" space, not "digital marketing".

I am interested to see what others say.

One thing I have noticed while we have been in the US that everything is about "online" as well.
