October 2007 Depending on how many angles of rotation you are dealing with, a simple flash movie with a faux-3d affect may be a more simple option. You would just load in the 15-20 images that would represent that angle of rotation and set up a drag directional to scroll through the images and turn on and off the layers.
Otherwise, you are indeed dealing with a 3d plug-in. Check FlashKit.com for open source flash code if you go that angle. Reply

October 2007 I've tried this before and couldn't find anything that didn't require a VRML plugin. I'm not sure if FLASH or AJAX is advanced enough to help out.

October 2007 In the last year or so there are 3 flash libraries available that would probably be able to facilitate your need -
papervision, away3d or sandy. You can import collada files and similar from you 3d application. The easiest route however if you don't require full freedom in interactivity regards camera angles would be to render multiple clips to video from your 3d app, then composite in flash with a few simple actions to swap between 'views'.
