I intend to start an Entertainment blog with heavy video content. All arrows are pointing to Wordpress and to use plugins for the video. I'm aware of the Video platforms for content producers but thought my own blog would allow the most potential opportunity. 5-10 minutes of video a day self produced and to include video from YouTube , Daily Motion etc etc. Yes I would like to make $ eventually . Initially I just want a blog/platform for my many produced shows, and to hone it into something that is informative and hilarious. I would like to approach this intelligently. I'm 52 with a strong entreprenuerial brick and mortar background. I am a videographer/Producer and an Audioguy/Musician that has toured the world. Can anyone provide me with help or suggestions ? I'd be happy to trade services or provide my services for great advice ! Thank you Marty S | ||

October 2007 As I was reading your question I started drafting a response in my mind. Then, I read duncanriley's answer and he said everything I wanted to - and probably better than I would have.
So, I'll just reinforce his recommendation of Movable Type - especially the newly released version 4. I have several sites running on MT, and have migrated all my WP sites to MT except one - and that's more a function of my laziness than reluctance to move. Also, I'll echo the suggestion to use a video service to host the video and embed it on your site. Reply

October 2007 Wordpress or MovableType. If you're convinced that hosting the video yourself is a good thing and think you might do some decent traffic I'd ping SixApart and talk to them about their options. The issue with WP under server strain is that it doesn't scale as well as MT, unless you've got easy access to a server farm and a coding guru.
What I would argue though is that you shouldn't host the videos you produce yourself. Upload them to YouTube, Revver, Vimeo and as many others as you can find. Video is about distribution and you wont get the best distribution by hosting them yourself. It's also a lot cheaper to host them elsewhere as well :-). With YouTube or similar you could use any blog or CMS platform you want as you wont be serving the video, only adding an embed. If you want more targeted video with advertising opportunities pick one video provider and stick to them. Revver comes to mind but there are probably half a dozen now with ad models that provide monetization opportunities for video. Reply

October 2007 If I am reading you right you want one place to bring it all together? If that is the case, take a look at http://tastyblogsnack.com/ and http://www.idoitdigital.com/ or even http://www.justin.tv for some examples/ideas. Im not a huge watcher of vlogs so Im short of other examples.
As far as hosting the videos - there are a ton of options including ones you listed. Reply

October 2007 Thanks guys for your time and answers. Took me a while to get back......It's Fantasy Fest here in Key West and you don't get much sleep .
Two votes for Movable Type over Wordpress ! I'm surprised ! The 3rd party widgets and overall support for WordPress seems to be overwhelming and is the #1 Blog Platform I keep hearing about. Other than the very important scaling factor that was brought up.............What other convincing reasons to use Movable Type over Wordpress are there? I would like to hear from Wordpress fans too !
Thanks very much for your time ! Itching to get started ! Marty S
