Why is this licorice and butterscotch colour scheme growing on me? In fact in daylight the black bits - e.g the header background - look dark brown, on my screen, so it's been chocolate and butterscotch. Such a change from the "established" Web 2.0 palette of pastels, citrus, blues and greys. At first I thought it was weird, now I like it and don't understand why. Is there a colour psychology expert in the house? | ||

October 2007 Funny enough when we first came up with the concept we called the project Orange Marketing and in fact the business entity is Orange Marketing Pty Ltd. Probably more by chance the preferred design was orange. Co-incidence maybe, maybe not? Intrigued by your question I have just looked up orange and according to a "color pschology site (which looks more like a horoscope site so not sure how scientific) but here you go ... Color Psychology for ORANGE - HAPPINESS, CONFIDENCE, RESOURCEFULNESS Orange brings joy to our workday and strengthens our appetite for life! Orange is the best emotional stimulant. Great colour to bring you back to life on a dull, cloudy day. It also helps depression. It connects us to our senses and helps to remove inhibitions and makes us independent and social. It certainly does that for me - I try to avoid working on weekends - here I am posting on a Sunday and enjoying it. And doing it from our farm where all I have is dial-up - now that's keen

October 2007 I run a dual monitor set up - a trinitron CRT screen and a high res LCD. On the trinitron, I get that chocolately colour yet on the the LCD I get the black. Both look good and work really with the orange colour. Normally I am not drawn to sites which are bold in their colour choices but the combination of colours for Gooruze just works! It is very distinctive on the screen and is easy to see when somone is "Gooruzing".

October 2007 I think I just created a new word - "Gooruzing" Dfn: To be contributing to the Gooruze community. Rene: perhaps you can add that to your Web 2.0 glossary Reply

October 2007 I'm not a color psychology expert (nor a colour one, either!) but I found the color scheme interesting and attractive the very first minute I saw the site. I'm also a sucker for rounded corners, so I'm quite pleased with the design aesthetic here.

October 2007 the coloring of the site came from the gooruze concept. orange as a color has a strong association with eastern concepts of a "guru"...considering the obvious wordplay that was used in the naming the community...the orange (or butterscotch as you see it) seemed an logical choice.
being a little different from the standard tones that have become synonymous with web 2.0 is also a way of making the community distinguishable... glad to hear the colors are growing on you... ![]() Reply
