October 2007 http://Nichebot.com has a great compilation of free keyword research tools, and super cheap ways to try various paid research. i've been and affiliate for a long time, and it was through them that I ran across Keyword discovery -
I still keep Wordtracker full subscription, and like their free tool to for quick volume searches... http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com Reply

October 2007 also overture gives me the results that look like: "run swim girl beach fandango transformers pope" I don't know what I am supposed to get out that but I don't want it.

October 2007 I don't really care for overtures' because it's from January and it doesn't export that well to excel.
I mainly stick with googles. That usually puts together a large list for me to sort through. Reply

October 2007 I'm getting turned off to Overture as well, for that reason. I have found it helpful in the past but it needs to be more current. When it was first revived people reported receiving info from May, but that has not been my experience no matter what I search for on it. Thanks jmb!

October 2007 I have used Inventory Overture. It seemed like it was dead for a while but it's back on now, although it only provides info from January. Thank you for the information, Al-Scillitani.

October 2007 You might enjoy using this "mashup" that Wordtracker put together for the 30 Day Challenge
http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/ It combines normal keyword data with Google Trends to help identify suitable niche markets. Reply

October 2007 I've never found a free tool that's worth using. I'd rather pay for Keyword Discovery and get better data and filtering options.

October 2007 Our clients tend to be new to the notion of SEO/SEM, so being able to direct them to a helpful free resource is a good way to get them started if they want to do some research themselves. Myself, I do general research for different things I write, so a free tool is all I need for that. I'll check out Wordze. Thank you, Matt!

October 2007 When recommending the free tools, I typically suggest Keyword Discovery and Wordtracker, with the caveat that the pay versions are more powerful with the extra features they offer. And with the ability to pay by the day or week, they're very affordable.
Wordze is a new one I have yet to try, but have seen good reviews of it. Reply

October 2007 Thanks for your opinion, Andy. I could rephrase the question, "Are there any free research tools that are worth using?" :) I agree that the paid tools are more comprehensive for serious work. I freelance as a writer on a variety of topics, and sometimes when I'm writing I just want information about a common term on the fly, and turn to the Digital Point tool.
