I just thought of this...why does Google not put ads on their homepage?

Maybe because there is no way for it to be relevant to what the user is looking for because they don't know until the user searches... but they do know search history...(unless you turn it off).

Any thoughts?

Because Google is known for being "clean". They have a slick interface. Remember when Yahoo was the place to go if you wanted to find something? Then after awhile Yahoo was a little junky. They had too much stuff cluttered everywhere, while Google was brand spanking new with this shiny and clean home page.

Besides, they are all about targeting. How would they target the ads based on what you are searching for if you haven't searched yet? I guess maybe once they are officially the rulers of the world they will know what you are going to look for before you do based on your patterns, the time of day, your location, the precipitation levels, etc. But until then, I am enjoying the clutter free home page.

I am just assuming that they started out that why and have decided to leave it as it, nice and clean.

How much do you think an ad would cost on the homepage of Google.com?  Cha'ching!!!!

Would it be more than $250 millions to get this single space?
