As with everything digital, the first movers in mobile apps were adult/chat/dating/music. As the industry matures what do you feel will be the most widely used mobile applications of the future?

Mobile phones, blackberry type devices, palm and the like. I think online communities on mobile will be widely adopted, just looking at the level of activity that is happening already with social community sites. We've all just been waiting for the technology to improve and for costs to come down. What are our Japenese neighbours up to these days in the mobile space? Just had a quick look at the imode website - launched in 1999, 46m subscribers and 95,000 mobile content providers - probably lots of animee sites out there

Businesses will increase their use of mobile apps - especially somewhere like WA where operations are spread across vast space and remote working the norm.

In the short term - localized web services will drive mobile applications. It makes sense considering the medium...as mobile web adoption grows and mobile bandwidth gets faster...mobiles will really drive services like local search...

Well - judging by the rate google are making all their apps mobile - this is definetely going to me a big deal :)

I'm in the market for a Tilt or 8525 myself, as it offers more potential than the i-phone. Sure  - it may not look as cool, but the power behind either of those babies is better + full keyboard + a little bit cheaper.

Rather than take up valuable space using MS orifice mobile - i'd much rather use either google docs or Zoho on the road - and if 8apps goes mobile that would be cool too. I think i read too that google reader is now mobile?

Anyone had any experience with taking Gooruze to a mobile platform?

Now - mobile second life  -that would be cool!  Except i'd have to carry 5 extra batteries and a couple of backup processors in me backpack to get it working.  Some sort of bridge between SL and say, Adium, could be a good gimmick - let you speak with SL friends/colleagues while not actually in world.
