Why in the world has it taken google 8+ years and counting to add a voting system next to results, where users could vote if a result was quality. When do you think google will finally do this. Talk about a great way to take the weight off of backlinks and actually get the community to do the hardwork for you. Instead of relying so heavily on an antique, flawed system such as pagerank and link juice. Greywolf got me thinking about this yesterday. Cmon google step up or get washed away! | ||

October 2007 agree it would be a good thing.
Gnoos has great voting ability on the results and also easy tagging. Reply

October 2007 there is a bunch they could do to reduce gaming, similar to the vibEngine member/content ranking system. I am sure they can throw more users at it than we can
![]() It would also only be a piece of the puzzle. i think there is room for it for sure, but they have such a strong position they can sit back and buy the right company/technology at the 11th hour. Reply

November 2007 While I agree such a system would be a poor signal for determining relevance, (ie; Alexa anyone?) - Golge has had a ‘voting’ system in the toolbar for quite some time and then you have stuff like this patent from last year; So, there could be ‘some’ use for user performance data. It is simply a matter of how much ‘weight’ it is getting ultimately. Now with Google and ‘Open Social’ - I am sure we’ll be hearing more about user generated signals. …hmmmmmm… Reply

October 2007 If google can stop click fraud why wouldn't they be able to stop vote fraud?
With regards to the voting system, I don't think it would get much weight b/c you just don't want to keep the top sites at the very top all the time. Sites with more exposure would obv get more votes. However, it would be potentially something else to offset backlinks. Maybe even a way to report spam sites in the results. There is just so much open space right now for user generated search result impact. Google isnt even trying, its kind of ridiculous this late in the game IMO. They spend too much time tweaking algo's, increasing shareholder wealth by manipulating adword "quality scores", and decreasing oragnic result #'s via craptastic "universal search" (google books just what I wanted ;) ) They have gotten off track with ways to actually make there results better and less spam free.
