November 2007 You know that "life straw" that lets people in countries without potable water drink from almost any water source and makes it potable. Yea, that this is crap. Worthless. Never did any good for anyone.
But the IPhone, The IPhone is amazing! My IPhone once saved me from a burning building on the 3rd floor. No ladder or anything. It just grabbed me and flew out the window. I owe my life to that IPhone. http://www.lifestraw.com/en/high/flaintro.asp Reply

November 2007 That must have been an early Beta model of the iphone -one of the ones that was actually useful :)
Yeah - Time are obviously not too bothered about spending any time on researching this year! I'm thinking they were in a meeting to discuss the invention of the year, looked around the room and said - oooh cool looking phone! Invention of the year - pffft - yawn :) Following in that vein - business person of the year i'm sure will be the 14yr old that makes millions by *cough* "designing" MySpace backgrounds. (Just on seeing some of them in articles etc - hopefully she's invested some of that money for when the brand police come a knocking for stealing their logo's etc ... :) Reply

November 2007 There is probably a better invention but we haven't heard about it.
I didn't understand all the iphone hype until my brother convinced me to go in the store so he could show me the features. Now I understand why people would want the phone, but I'm not changing from Verizon just to get it. I enjoy being able to get reception in areas where no one else can. Reply

November 2007 sorry not going to pay 400+ $ for a cell phone that will end up getting dropped, kicked, scratched, sat on etc etc.
I like my 30$ models when I resign contracts every 2 years :-) Reply

November 2007 Nope - no plans to buy one. It's not even the money - as i'm on the verge of dropping $300 on an HTC flip - or the 8525 (Depending on reading some more reviews)
In fact - theres the key right there - the HTC (or similar) phones have better processors, more capability and a full keyboard - for about $100 less when on sale. Sure you lose a litlle bit in the sexy factor - but thats always the way of all things Windows Vs Apple. I dont hate apple products - love my ipod and my G5 at work in fact, but i've always taken issue with their pricing - overpriced products, just for cool looks. Plus the fact that Apple think that any reasonable price drop promotions is a complete waste of their time - i guess theres enough Fanboys out there that will keep buying the product :) So - no iphone for me - and while i don't have an alternative - i wouldn't say invention of the year either. A touch screen ipod with a phone and web capability built in - nice merge of technologies - but hardly earth stopping. The buzz built around the product is pretty impressive though. Reply
