While working on an SEO RFP for a group of Honda dealerships, I was unable to find any search queries containing the keyword "honda" in the Google AdWords Keyword Tool search logs, even with the synonyms option turned off.

Has anyone ever ran into a similar keyword research oddity?  Thanks!

Following-up on this issue, below is an email from GAdW customer service:

Hello Jeremy,

Thank you for your call yesterday. It was a pleasure speaking with you. I
spoke with an AdWords Technical Specialist regarding your question about
the results of the keyword tool queries for the keyword 'honda'. Currently
there is a technical issue with the keyword tool when the location
targeting is set to 'United States.'. The location targeting is causing
the keyword tool to not show results for certain keywords. Our engineers
are currently working on this issue. As a workaround until the issue is
resolved, you can set the location targeting to 'All Countries and
Territories' and you will see results. Of course, the results will not be
US centric, but will give you an idea of the various 'honda' keywords our
system generates with the tool.

I hope this information is helpful, Jeremy. If you have additional

Btw, as proposed in the email, disabling geo-targeting does check-out.  Didn't even think about trying that yesterday.

On a sidnote, I was unable to get an ETA from her, and from what the email suggests, this looks like an open-ended issue.  Hopefully it doesn't handicap anyone else's keyword research efforts.

I have noticed this as well with other terms.  I think they limit suggetions for trademarked terms.

Did you try any other branded terms or other Google tools (trends)?

Also, other branded terms such as Acura (part of the Honda family) do pull up hits in the GAdW KWT

Yes, Google Trends does pull up relevant articles, and Google Suggest also generates suggested search queries and stats.  GAdW KWT is the only search property that doesn't reference any keyphrases containing "honda".  Still a mystery to me.

On a sidenote, as expected, seemingly no issues on WordTracker and Keyword Discovery.

Samething here on 'Volvo' related terms. I think Google had indeed blocked the information for certain trademarks, allthough it's not forbidden to advertise on these terms (for dealer though).
