I was wondering... One of the things we learn about SEO is that search engine spiders currently don't recognize JavaScript and so we should avoid it as long as it is strongly needed. How come Website Optimizer is meant to optimize landing pages using JavaScript? I understand it's about A-B tests and stuff like that, but isn't my page gonna become SE unfriendly upon applying such technique? | ||

December 2007 The primary goal of Google's Webmaster Optimizer is to assist with conversion on landing pages used in conjunction with Google AdWords...so SEO isn't the primary objective.
I understand that many people use standard web pages for destination URLs on AdWords campaigns, but explicit landing pages are generally about getting visitors to take a specified action - not feeding the search engine spiders...if you can get the best of both worlds - then that's a bonus. If you're using the Website Optimizer for an AdWords campaign - Quality Score should be your focus. Reply

December 2007 I think Googlebot is smart enough to recognize Javascript and just ignore it.

December 2007 That's exactly my point. I mean, why would I use GWO to make my landing pages better and better while Googlebot is likely to ignore most of the relevant information in them because of the use of JavaScript?
Website Optimizer just blew me away and I can't wait to get my hands on it, but I am definitely not gonna go for it in case it affects the crawling of my content. Reply
