Has anyone noticed the new "Products" link at the top of the Google search page?

http://www.google.com

Do you think this will have any affect on ecommerce sites?

Right around Thanksgiving they removed the VIDEO link that used to be in that spot and put PRODUCTS there, instead. I'm guessing it's a temporary thing for the holiday shopping season.

Absolutely. Why wouldn't an e-commerce site want to have their goods easily found there?

I think this could have a huge effect on ecommerce websites. This is the Google Base product feed which most (many, at least) ecommerce webmasters don't pay much attention to. Optimizing your product feed can get you top listing when someone searches for a specific item. There are certain fields that are required for participation but there are many optional fields for different industries that the majority of people using Google Base completely ignore. I am not sure how many people actually click on the Products button, but the potential is there to be very big. Now there are two places to click on the feed instead of just one.

They did something to product results showing up for queries as of late, hadn't noticed it up top there.

Incidently the product results I have seen so far are really really bad. Not relevant at all.
