Best Web Host?

the eternal question.

I guess at $10 a month or less you get what you pay for, but having said that I've paid ten time s that amount (even more) for service which still isn't great.

If you're willing to pay a little more then illys and westnet have always seemed to have a good reputation.

You may also want to checkout the whirlpool forums Whirlpool Broadband Forums they have a section on best hosts for all over Aus. Lots of user feedback.

I also came across these two the other day http://www.midphase.com/index.php and http://www.anhosting.com
(They are both the same company) and they have plans for around $10 US per month. They are US based, but they come highly recommended. The features list is also quite astonishing.

I haven't used them, so I can't fully comment.

The other thing you need to consider is where the bulk of your traffic is coming from. Hosting where your audience is is always going to give your customers at least better performance.

Performance apart, as Mark has well mentioned its importance before.. I've been looking through many web hosting companies and US based ones look far up from the others, they offer better benefits and a more affordable price...

If you're considering a budget of at most $10/mo, I suggest you to have a look at  www.fastdomain.com or www.bluehost.com (they offer the same service) which I've used before and it's quite good.

Thanks for the tips and the link to Whirlpool. I did have a look at the more expensive Media Temple and Ilysis (spell?) but they are a bit out of my budget at the moment unfortunately, otherwise I would have used them.
