Do you think there is a serious difference between a .com or a .net? What if the .com is already taken, leaving you with the other options and the country versions of it eg .com.au, .co.uk, etc.

Angie,

.com is probably the first extension your customers will think of when searching for your business, so ideally a .com address is what you'd want.

However, I don't think it should be the primary or deciding factor when choosing a web address.

Most people will try .net or .com.au .org etc  if they can't find your site when typing in the url with just .com first.

Failing that, as long as they remember your business name, then they should be able to search for it anyway.

Which brings me to the main point: Your business name. Ideally your business name should be unique, easy to remember and state what you do in some way: IE "Market Impact" "Ad Force"  "Gooruze" etc

Remember the name has to go across all sorts of corporate and business materials such as business cards, stationary, ads, signage, phone messages etc.

So you should work out the name first as part of your primary branding and marketing strategy.

If you've come up with a good one, then the availability of url extensions shouldn't make a great deal of difference.
