Anchor Text - ideal length?

A client of mine has asked for a whole sentance to be used as a link, I've advised against it, my question is, is it acceptable to have a whole two line sentance as a link? Or is it preferrable to have anchor text as just a few words?

I will give you the fololwing advice your anchor text should be relevant with the page which you want to link to and it should have not more than five words in it.

I would recommend only using a few words and making those words very relevant to the page linked as this should support the SEO cause.
