In terms of ECommerce, and Marketing which of these two platforms do you project as being suitable sources of income generators for companies if they chose to advertise there? In terms of Geo-targeting which platform would have the most scope in the coming years?

Hello samir.

Agree with rachel, facebook better with 2 ways communication.

I ever got an email from my friend who have experience, investment ratio in facebook is : if you invest for $1 you will get back $1.175 in a day, great ratio i think, only 6 days to get ROI.

Samir,

First of all they are two different mediums and trying to play one off against the other probably isn't the right strategy.

As Marc alluded to, you need to approach them more in terms of marketing than advertising. IE Does your target market use them? How does it use them? How will your product or service benefit them etc.

There's also huge debate as to wehter or not Facebook will stil be around in two years. It famously has never made any money and has a CEO who isn't interested in making it profitable. (Go figure.)

Also, social media users, especially those on Facebook, have shown themselves to be violently oppossed to companies using the social space to "advertise".

Proceed with care.

Mark

You have to try and think how to participate in both these communities without "advertising".

Brand participation can come in many forms...customer service lines open via twitter (twitter.com/iinet), fan pages offering tactical promotions via facebook (Samboy Chips). I would spend time analysing community behaviours and target communications based on "what shoe fits best".

Above all, do not advertise.

Thanks for the insight Marc!

And that was a very good presentation, a lot of learning for us at the E-marketing class at UWA.

Really appreciate you taking the time out to talk to us.

Cheers!

I would have to say facebook, however it may need to be a targeted campaign linked into users that 'do' a certain behavior. I think twitter would be harder as the attention span is fleeting. Even as most twitterers mature, twitters may find that only talking one way to be tiring.

Hello,

Yes i will also go with the point that mark has added as they both are different its you who have to decide as per your requirements which would be beneficial and where is your actual targeted audience. Yes facebook do have many issues when we are promoting.

If you are basically targeting other organisations or business's then may be twitter would be of great help to you as now a days as per the research 80 % of people are using twiiter for promotion or business prespectives.

But, else if you have a product then facebook will help you to advertise using there paid advertisement and try to attract people.

Its all on your product and requirement.

I will suggest go for both as they both will help you in one or other way but just be smart while using

This is one of the most important questions being asked by clients since late last year...that is, where should I concentrate my online PR...on Twitter or Facebook???

In many respects, marketers and indeed users will always gravitate to one or the other.

I think the points made by Marc and Rachel are totally valid that is, in your assessment of what is most suitable, you need to identify what are the key traits of your target audience -  that is what is it that they are likely to respond favourably to etc.

More often than not, in the campaigns I have been invovled in, I have always sought to achieve a happy balance between both of these social networks. The key, as I believe, is to make your communication relevant, compelling/enriching and user-centric - that is to say, give those that you are targeting what they want.

I would strongly urge getting a social media strategy (need not be over the top) to define the manner and nature of your aims/objectives and you will find that will lead the tone, approach etc that you use.

Best of luck!
